Piloting of the MASTIS course in National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”


During 2018 Software Engineering and Management Information Technologies Department of NTU «KhPI» have been actively involved in the implementation of an educational program of Master training in Information Systems and Technologies. This program was developed taking into account recommendations within project “Establishing Modern Master-level Studies in Information Systems “(MASTIS). As a result, a new program of Master training “Information Systems Software” was promoted in the field of Information Systems and Technologies (Protocol №. 87/2 of meeting Licensing Commission of the Education and Science Ministry of Ukraine dated 13.03.2018 ).

The group of masters of Science in Information Systems (2.KN501p.8) is formed. Since September 3, 2018, the pilot training of masters in specialty 126- “Information Systems and Technologies” is launched.

The educational curriculum includes the following courses:

  • Development and implementation of information systems;
  • IT infrastructure;
  • Enterprise architecture management;
  • Databases and data warehouses;
  • Information system security;
  • Innovation and business enterprise;
  • Information systems strategy;
  • Management of information systems projects

One of the main courses developed by the project team is the discipline “Databases and Data Warehouses” (lecturer – associate professor, PhD Volodymyr Sokol). The training is based on a modernized teaching approaches and curriculum. Course teaching materials are available on the platform MASTIS MOODLE online platform (

Training is carried out in the form of lectures, laboratory works, and independent students’ work.

To create video lectures, a personal SWIVL robot, obtained through the MASTIS project, is used. The student’s feedback gathering is going to conduct after the end of the course. It helps to improve the curriculum of discipline in the future.

It should be noted that the comments and suggestions of our partners were taken into consideration during the working process.

Final assessment of the discipline “Databases and Data Warehouses” quality and improved course version can be made after the course is over.
